2023 Hawaiian Xmas Trip: Day Six: Two Walk Monday, Part 1

2023-12-18. I don’t remember exactly when, but mom asked what I thought about her getting a dog, maybe a puppy, while she was still living on her own in the Encinitas townhouse. I know how studies have shown how pets, like dogs, can improve the quality of life for some folks, giving them a sense of purpose and helping them with loneliness. But I wasn’t too sure that mom could have handled the daily responsibilities of a pet, especially a puppy, with her growing health issues. She eventually dropped the subject, especially when she could no longer take care of herself. I bring this up because one constant during my stay with my sister and her family is the need for the daily walk of our friend, Aukai. Little bugger does require a lot of care and walks. Makes me wonder if I should think of adding a fur-being to my existence… nah.
